Blog site of Kevin Hicks 2007 ADHB candidate, for discussion of Auckland health issues. I missed out by 100 votes and I intend to run again in 2010. I beleive in unity and sound governance to deliver state of the art staffing and facilities to the patients of Auckland.

Would anybody give me some sound advice--This is a short version of events I have cared for an elderly Mum for a no of years without help or respite care very well .Then the DHB and waitemata Health got involved and my life has turned into a nightmare or worse.Due to Mum deterioration in health and my own (24/7 with help during the week only-- 2hrs daily and three one day for shopping which rarely happened)The DHB suggested Mum went into respite care which I agreed to knowing we had to pay a short fall.In the mean time it was discussed that looking after Mum was to difficult for one person and that she should stay in the Rest home .The Rest-home and the DHB knew her financial affairs so she was to transfer to Residential care which never happened I personally got the bill as I had signed my Mother into the Rest-home-Finally after months and months of begging and pleading court action from the rest-home the DHB paid there share we paid our share but there was a short fall of 4,800 Court costs that I have to find or be placed into bankruptcy have my car for sale which hasn't sold yet but will soon.My question is Why can't I get a fair and honest hearing from anybody ??why are the DHBor the Rest-home not at all responsible for any of this as they were to blame for the mess .The DHB in a letter to my Lawyer have used the fact I was unwell and a letter from my doctor (which they insisted on )to get out of any responsibility at all.In desperation I went to my local MP and that was no help (Birenheide National party)Nobody cares at all as I am just nobody important and I have several other incidients of the same in justices from same government departments----just nowhere to go for help.Anybody with anything that may help please

Thanks for your comments Jess, I appreciate them. I have had a number of people comment that explanations of technical medical matters could be clearer and I would like to bring that up with the board.

We emphasise the business side purely because it is necessary for the sustainablilty of the public health system. Hospital waiting lists have been improved somewhat at the ADHB recently but I would like the opportunity to improve them a lot more. You are most welcome to contact me directly if you wish. I think if we all work together cooperatively we can improve things much more than by sensationlising like the media tends to do at times. Cheers, Kevin.

I like the C&Rate Payers ideas, it's just that I feel a little sick (poisoned) by some of the medical jargon esp to do with Biochemistry.
Not all here I feel are 'feel good' people and although business breaks down doors, people shouldn't be hurt in unforseen ways.
Lives should not be wrecked and it makes me sad when one never did something accused of that my friend pays with low quality life.
Just insights........hospital waiting lists are also a bugbear of mine grrrrr it took so long for my illness to be diagnosed!
